AE 16
Was at the local cabela's gun room this weekend and poked my head into the office to seee if my friend was there. I immeadiately spotted what I thought was an A grade 12 along the wall. I asked to look at it , but was told that it had been brought in for possible sale, but had not been finalized yet. I was back there yesterday and talked to my friend. The gun was actualy an AE 16 with 30" barrels, but they were unable to make a deal with the owner. It looked to be in very good condition, sure wish that I had been able to handle it, maybe make an offer. I have an A16 with 28" barrels and it has always been one of my favorites.

Re: AE 16
I only got to see it from across the room,so dont know whether it was a Philly or Utica gun, or any other particulars. There is a single barrel Fox J trap gun for sale also.

Re: AE 16
I was able to acquire a rather decent AH Fox A 16 with 26" IC/M barrels and strangely enough it's turning into my favourite dove and sporting clays gun .
Only fault I can find in it is being made in 1930 in Utica !
I'd like it a darn sight better if it came from Philly !

Re: AE 16
I wouldnt pass up a Utica gun. My A 16 is a Philly gun circa 1916 and has a POW grip and weighs 6 lbs 4 oz. I do have 4 SW (2 16's and 2 20's, all are Utica guns), but yeah, wish a couple of them were Philly guns. Wished I had been able to handle that gun at Cabela's. Haven't bought a gun since July (Lefever G 16 Damascus), and I'm real partial to 16's (have 8-3 are Foxes).

A Utica 12 , Philly 12 and a pair of Philly 20's . Maybe one of these days I'll find a nice Philly Sterlingworth 16 .
I am more the 10 , 16 and 28 gauge type person !
I would add 8 gauge , but it'll be a cold day before I can afford any of them in shootable condition .
I have plenty 12's and 20's but find them a little to plain vanilla .

Re: AE 16
My dear departed shooting buddy had a Sterlingworth 12 gauge pin gun . I held that gun in my hands many many times . My old friend liked guns with about a 15" LOP so it never really fit me . But I wish I could have gotten it after he passed !3birddogs wrote:I only own 1 12 ga double, but it is a SW pin gun with28" #4 wt barrels that is factory choked cyl/m. He had a very nice Parker VHE 12 that had been totally redone but in a fashion befitting a Parker , would have liked that one as well .
My old friend loved WIN 12's , REM 870's , A-5's , K-32's and REM 11's . He also owned three SxS's the Fox , the Parker and a Browning BSS all 12 gauge . But usually he shot them with short Briley inserts .

Re: AE 16
I have the Fox A 16 and a damascus Parker GH 16 . So I'm thinking I need a Philly Sterlingworth 16 and a LC Smith Ideal 16 . I'd just as soon they were all 26" IC-M .
I actually plowed a doe with the Parker GH this season using handloaded #1 Buck at about 6-8 yards from a treestand .
Almost forgot I have a rather nice old Remington Sportsman 48 16 gauge with factory vent rib skeet marked barrel that someone added a Cutts . I actually like that gun pretty well other then the fact that I'm anal about keeping my hands on all my 16 gauge hulls LOL's !
Been thinking a nice Belgian A-5 Sweet Sixteen "Buck Special" would fit nicely in my "accumulation"

Re: AE 16
Hmm, seems like we think alike. I too, have a Parker GH 16 Damascus, O frame, and carried it a lot during grouse season. Also, a VH 16,1 frame, and a sweetheart DHE 16, O frame, straight grip with 26" barrels and factory ordered chokes of cyl/m. The little Lefever G 16 Damascus is made on the Lefever XX frame, same as their 20 gauges.

Back 20-25 years ago when I was still bird hunting on a regular basis I had a VH 16 english stock and 30" barrels as well as a 16 Trogan .3birddogs wrote:Hmm, seems like we think alike. We have a LC Smith Ideal 16 at the shop some fellow brought in to get something or other fixed . It's been sitting for several months fixed waiting for him to get it . Gun has a few imperfections that I think need to be addressed . But if he ever calls and says sell it I may just try and get it .
