I just got a 12 ga. Sterlingworth I bought online that I planned on using as a beater of sorts. I was thinking I could add a recoil pad and lower the comb a little and use it where steel shot is required. I have a 16 ga. Sterlingworth I use where lead shot is allowed.
But after looking around a little I think it might be skeet and upland model. It is a real nice clean gun that seems to be all original. There isn't much case color left but the barrels are in great shape and the blueing looks great. The wood is in great shape also except for a hairline crack in the head that should be easy to repair. Action is real tight also.
If it is a Skeet and Upland model would it have any collectors value?
Whether it's a Skeet & Upland Model or not you have a very nice Sterlingworth and a straight handed stock to boot. I would certainly not put any steel shot through it, only bismuth or nice shot, It should have good collector value. IMHO,,,,George

Scott, it is the one Stephen Cobb had. He said it had been restocked because it had a short tang. After doing a little research, it seems like most of the Skeet and Uplands came with a short tang.
How do I go about getting a letter on it?
George, I think your right, this one seems too nice to put steel through it.
I'd like the complete serial number, barrel length, and some better pictures of the gun so I can include it in the my tables of observed Sterlingworths. From what I've observed of 12-gauge Fox-Sterlingworth Skeet & Upland Game Guns, the earliest ones in the 1306xx range have the long backstrap trigger guards. The oter batches in the 135xxx, 160xxx and 161xxx range have the short triggerguard backstrap. I haven't recorded any smallbore Fox-Sterlingworth Skeet & Upland Game Guns with a long backstrap trigger guard.

Researcher, I know the serial number starts with 160???, I'll try and get the rest of the numbers for you tonight.
It has 26" barrels. The dealer said it was choked .007 and .020. The gun weighs 6 lbs. 9 oz. and the stock is 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 14 1/4".
Will it hurt the value to get the hairline crack in the stock glued or epoxied?
Researcher, Here is one to add to your database. Fox Sterlingworth Skeet and Upland 160,322. I purchased from a gentleman in MA in '99, and sold to another in MI in 2005. This gun had 26" barrels bored skeet and 1/4 choke. It too had the short tang. This actual gun was pictured in McIntosh's book in the "Savage Years" chapter. It had most of the case colors, but with more of a yellow tint.
Look at the choke in the right barrel from muzzles.If choke appear to be belled out or larger at the muzzle then it should be a S/U.Certainly looks like one to me. Bobby.
