I completed my Fox slam, using all 6 of my Foxes this season to take game, on New Years Day. The last gun was a little 20 ga Utica SW. This gun is in very nice condition and has nicer figured wood than in most SW's. It doesn't show in the pictures, however. The gun has 28" barrels that are choked cyl/mod and appear to be unaltered. The gun retains 30-40% of its case color. The bird got up in back of me in the switch grass and I totally wiffed on the first shot. As it cleared the tree tops at 35 yds, I pulled the back trigger and it dropped like a rock. It was pointed and retrieved by my male, Shiner, who turned 12 the day before. Later, as Betty and Shiner worked a running bird into a large mutiflora rose patch. As I walked in over point, the bird flushed and went out over Shiner's head. He went airborne and actually had ahold of the cock bird's wing feathers, but it pulled loose. I had no shot, as it was too low with the dogs there--still that picture remains in my mind, him hanging in the air holding that bird. A great way to start the new year.

I have used 11 out of my 12 vintage American doubles this season. The only one not carried so far is a little Lefever Dursten Special with ejectors. It is a 20 ga with 26" barrels and weighs around 5 3/4 lbs. I haven't shot it for years, but I am ready to get back to my 16 guages.
