On being too picky.

Post by ROMAC »

I'm still in the beginning phases of my Fox collecting, but I have been collecting /accumulating guns for 30 years. I've bought and sold some nice stuff over the years. I'm also fortunate enough to live just 45 minutes from where the old Fox factoy stands so I see Foxes fairly often. I passed up an early A with 32 inch F/F barrels yesterday for cheap money because of a cracked stock repaired with 3 screws and a metal plate as well as overall long use in the duck marsh condition.

The serial number was in the 72xx range.

Am I too picky?

Would it be better to buy these types of guns and sell them to people here and thus "keep them in the family"?

Why not post the contact details on the Members only forum?? Then interested parties can contact the seller and you are not involved in the transaction. Craig

Yea do that bc I'm looking for pretty much EXACTLY that gun to take back in the marsh!!

And no I don't think you're being too picky. You can't buy every fox you see otherwise when what you want comes along the resources to buy it might not be!

Cheers gents,
Pat

Well Craig, I just might do that but I'm still trying to make up my mind about it.

I need to go back with a bore snake to see how much of the crud in the barrels is just that, and how much pitting might be hiding underneath of it.

How hard to find are 12's with 32 inch tubes as a general matter?

Early A's can have really nice wood but this one has seen better days.

32 inch barrels aren't nearly as common as 28 or 30 inch barrels and command a premium especially in the smaller gauges. If you plan to buy this for yourself and replace the stock you better check the costs, they can be quite high to have the action fitted and the stock finished.

I'm thinking more along the lines of having the barrels fitted to my existing early A that is 90%. I'd have to get lucky on the fit and I generally hate to part out guns so I've got a dilemma.

You should not cannibalize the gun for barrels or otherwise part it out. I would be quite interested in a well used early A with 32" barrels. PM if you can do anything for me. We may have to take this to the members only section. Bill Murphy
