I recently acquired a Fox / Sterlingworth 12ga double barrel shotgun. The gun is in good condition, and the only change looks to be a different butt plate on the stock. There's very little pitting or rust anywhere, the wood is in good shape, and the gun appears to have been well cared for it's entire life.
I bought the gun from my Uncle, and am trying to determine it's approximate worth. It's a 30" barrel, with a serial number in the 538xx range, with all numbers matching. I know I got a good deal, as he sold it to me for what he paid for it years ago - $250. But I'm hoping I can figure out the exact year (1910 or 1911?) and overall value. I won't be selling this - it will stay in the family.
I will post pictures as soon as I get it home, and have a chance to separate the receiver from the barrels.

Looks like 1910 to me. We'd love to see some pics. At $250 you most certainly got a deal.

From my table of observed specimens you are right on the cusp. The lowest serial number A.H. Fox Gun Co. Sterlingworth Model 1911 I've recorded is 53140 and the highest The Sterlingworth Co. gun I've recorded is 53824.

The actual number is 53853. I haven't seen the "1911 model" anywhere, but I haven't separated the barrels from the receiver to check. I'll post some pictures this week when I get it home.

You might want to check out our Sterlingworth Directory --

"Model 1911" is stamped on the forearm iron, but you musty snap the forearm off the barrels to see it.
A letter on the gun from the Savage Historian is the only way to know when it was actually shipped --
