Fox grade question

Post by GreyTalon »

Hi,

Being fairly new to the Fox SXS I was wondering what the key differences are from BE to CE if all dimensions are equal. In addition, is there a general rule of thumb on $$ value difference? Looks like Blue Book places $800-$1000 difference? Can someone enlighten me?

Thxs,

There were so few B grade smallbore guns made that they usually sell for more than the C grades most of the time. Bobby

GT,

Be sure to study the graded gun pictures posted on our home page. They clearly show the more elaborate engraving on the CE (especially on the early, Gen-1 models) however with the quality of wood we see on most B-grades, it was unquestionably the best deal going in the Fox product line and no doubt a "loss leader" with respect to profitability. Amazing that it took until @ 1918 to discontinue it from their offering.

I don't put much faith in the Blue Book, especially when it comes to high grade Fox guns. Rarity and condition drive pricing. Best to check hammer prices (be cognizant of 15-18% buyer's premium) and final bid pricing on Gunbroker to get some type of idea what the market is fetching. If you're talking smallbores, my best advice is to "assume the position" cause unless the gun is a rode-hard relic, you're gonna pay-up....LOL!!-------TOOL
On the whole....I'd rather be in Philadelphia....
