XE and a rooster

Post by MilRob »

I got out for a few hours today with my young cocker Finn. He worked nice today and I was able to shoot a nice rooster over him.

Milrob, my 11 1/2 year old black Lab, Mandy, found our first wild rooster of the season today, an old cock bird with very long and sharp spurs. Taken with a 16 gauge. Jim
Goodbye Mandy, once in a life time hunting dog. I miss you every day.

Very nice. That's the gun you were telling me about, huh. Thanks.

Jim, Always good to get the old dogs out. I have an older cocker that is really slowing down but I still try and get him out here and there where I know I have a short walk and typically produces birds.

Dave, That is it. The photo is in full sun and the case colors are a little nicer than they appear but I liked the way the sun made the feathers shimmer.

What a nice gun!! What are the particulars??--wt., barrel length, chokes, guage, etc.
I think I would be afraid to carry it if it were mine--afraid I'd fall on it. I put some pics of my A 16 on Hunting forum today.
My male setter in the picture is now 12 years old and hunts very well. I forget that he is that old as he still has quite a
"motor" in him.

3birddogs, my black Lab, Mandy, at 11 1/2 has a lot of energy and I don't go hunting without her. Jim

16 ga no barrel stamps but weights just a touch over 6 lb. 26" tubes choked full/full. I thought the same thing when I bought it. It is not a high condition all original and I look at it like a gun meant to be hunted. I have taken it out grouse hunting numerous times this year busting brush with it. :) I have left it home on the rainy days but I love carrying the gun. It was originally bought by a quail hunter from Georgia and someday I would love to go south and hunt some quail with it. I figure it is most likely the only XE I will ever own so I might as well enjoy it. Happy hunting!!

I just drooled all over my desk when I found out it was a 16 ga, my favorite. I, too, have a gun that was probably orderd as some old quail hunters gun in Georgia. It is a Parker DHE 16 ga, O frame, straight grip, 26" barrels, factory choked at
cyl/mod, and weighs 6 lbs on the nose. Oval on the stock inscribed, Jos. Gray, Atlanta, Ga.
Can't you just see those 2 guns on a mule drawn wagon with 2 pointing dogs (setters in my dream) standing tall. Maybe one day! Haven't hunted grouse in Minn. for a while, usually go to the UP for 2 weeks each year

What time frame is your Parker from? They very well could have known each other. My Fox was shipped in 1933 to Columbus Georgia.
