Gauge

Post by 6pt-sika »

From everything I've ever seen , read or heard over the last 40 or so years AH Fox only made guns chambered for 12 , 16 and 20 . Well atleast until Savage bought them and came out with the POS Fox-B .

Has anyone ever seen , heard , read about of any other gauge that is known to have been made at the Philly factory or later at Utica when they were still making the quality Fox guns ?

You are right but there are some in the white 20 gauge barrels that were new old stock reamed out to 28 gauge after the fact that I've read about. Is that what you are beating around the the bush about?

There have been some 2 barrel sets put together over the years. That plus all the CSMC offerings.

The in the white 20 gauge barrels you see from time to time are rough-chambered with chamber dimensions close to 28 gauge. Thus, some talented gunsmiths have assembled guns with 28 gauge chambers and 20 gauge bores, similar concept to the subgauge chamber inserts now popular with sporting and skeet shooters. I saw one of these 28 gauge Foxes last weekend while at the Vintage Cup. It was an AE 28 gauge and the owner gent shot it in one of the events. I inspected the gun and talked with the owner extensively as I was particularly interested in the ejector setup. He had used 20 gauge ejectors and overwelded the rim cuts and recut them to 28 gauge size. Of course one of these guns would never pass as original either Philly or Utica due to the grossly oversize bore and chokes.
