Philly Sterlingworth straight grip trigger guard tang

Post by jmc »

Hello,

I've looked high and low for a high res photo of an original Sterlingworth sporting a straight grip that actually shows the entire trigger guard and long tang. If I have missed a photo on this website or another I would really appreciate a pointer to it. Also, if someone reading this owns such a Sterlingworth and can provide a picture, I would be grateful.

Regards,

jmc

Skeet and upland Utica sterlingworths came with a straight grip stock from factory and had the pistolgrip trigger guard straightned and not a long tang.Graded guns had long tang guards and maybe SP grades.I buy a long tang guard from Galazan and use them for straight grip stocks or you can weld an extension on pistol grip guard. Bobby - thanks for the reply and info. I guess I should have known that... had it in my mind that a 'standard' Sterlingworth could be ordered with a straight grip but not the case? I was able to find a pic of a skeet and upland with the short and straightened tang. Thanks again for the info!

All the smallbore Fox-Sterlingworth Skeet & Upland Game Guns I have recorded had the short backstrap trigger guards on their straight grips. In the 12-gauges there seems to be three distinct serial number blocks of Fox-Sterlingworth Skeet & Upland Game Guns -- 130xxx, 135xxx and those in the 160xxx & 161xxx range. The two guns I've seen and recorded in the 130xxx range have long backstrap trigger guards of graded guns, while the others all have the short.

Maybe a picture showing the guard strap of one of the 12 ga S&UG guns will surface. On page 276 of McIntosh'sbook, a 20- ga SPE S&UG gun is pictured lying on its left side and it kind of looks like it has a long guard but hard to tell due to angle and lighting. The screw about an inch behind the bend in the guard looks to have a lot guard behind it.

Here is my 12-gauge Fox-Sterlingworth Ejector Skeet & Upland Game Gun with the short backstrap trigger guard --

The SP-/SPE-Grade Skeet & Upland Game Gun was a much higher grade gun, and always had the long strap as any graded straight grip gun.
