Very Old Fox

Post by kgb »

Just saw an early Fox, Parker-looking hinge pin, serial number 315 with 3 screws through the triggerplate. Unfortunately it also has lots of peening to the bottom of the rib extension in an apparent attempt to get to lock up tighter. Poor thing has apparently had a rough life, and the tag on it declares the safety to be non-operational. Still, for as old and sad as it is, it's a pretty classy looking shotgun.

Did you have the opportunity to purchase this gun? It may have some possibilities.

My notes show Philadelphia Arms Co. FOX A-Grade serial number 315 at Cabelas in La Vista, NE, and being "well worn."

Well worn works as a description! Asking price was about $640, the bores looked clear and the forearm latch seemed to be in fine working order. Seemed like it should function, but would take some work to get it right.

All these replies are legitimate. If the original poster wants to buy the gun, all replies are "added information". At $640, go for it.

EB, just brought it up to mention it's the first of its kind I've ever seen. I'm not really a collector, just interested in the guns and their history. If anyone's cataloging these guns, there's a S/N for a database.
