Sterlingworth pin gun fore end question

When I snap the fore end on my Sterlingworth there is a little gap between the wood of the fore end and the barrels. I wonder how much space should be there and if and how it could be corrected. I'm talking tight at the rear at the receiver, and about 1/8 inch to the front. Tell me what you think. Thanks, Clay

Clay,forend wood should fit up to barrels when snapped on.I had a friend bring his pin gun to shop and forend did not pull up to barrels and fitted loose.I removed the flat spring and using padded vise flattened out the spring and the forend then fitted correctly. Bobby

Bobby, Thanks for the help, I'll see if I can solve the problem. Having a little trouble getting it apart. I had a internal crack in the stock head. Glass bedded a staple in the stock and the glass bedded the receiver. Had a little left over so thought I would strengthen the wood fibers in the forearm. I put alot of release agent on the metal, but sure got a tight fit. May have been the dumbest thing I did. Did a good job rebuilding the stock head, but couldn't waste any gel you know. LOL

Yippy, Got it out with not alot of effort. No spring, seems all inclosed. Looks like I'll have to set the entire metal piece a little deeper so the wood will come closer to the barrels. Should not be to big of a deal. Should really be cake compared to what I have been through on this project. What to get some before and after pics on here, as soon as I figure out how to do it and I get the recoil pad on the SW. Thanks for your time guys.

Clay,i am a smallbore man but my friend's sterlingworth pin gun had a slightly curved flat spring coming out of the slot on top of iron that fit in forend lug on barrel and held forearm in place.Yours must be a slightly later pin gun. I am not familar with them ,only one i ever worked on. Sorry,Bobby

Thanks for keeping in touch. Mine is 1911 stamped on the metal. Looks like a little coil spring in the slot.
