a Fox toy cannon, or any other toy gun other than the well known toy double. Another member
promptly sent three pictures of a cannon, two of which are shown below .
The first picture is of what is apparently a typical Fox Ranger Repeating Cannon. Picture two
is of the undercarrige below the breach end of the barrel, and it shows a Fox Co. label, addressed
Columbus, Ohio, patent applied for.
Since the time of these pictures, I have scoured junkshops, antique? shops, toy shows, etc., over
much of the mid-central states. Four thousand toy cannons on ebay last month, but not one of these.
Last week, five miles from my house north of Kansas City, one shows up in an antique store. Eighteen
inches long, 7 inch bright red wheels-identical to the one shown above-it is picture three.
Identical until you see picture four; it is not stamped Fox Co. Instead it is marked Ranger Toy and
Novelty, also at Columbus, and wanting a patent.
The last picture is the only advertisement I have, but I suspect there are others. McIntosh, pp 349,
refers to them as Ranger cannons in the early 30's. I'm at a loss for information on these toys. The Fox Co/
Ranger co. has so far drawn a blank for me. Who else has a cannon, or advertisement; can you add to
the history?
