Good morning all,
I just inherited a Sterlingworth double barrel shotgun that has been locked away in a closet for 50 years or so and nobody in the family knows anything about it other than my great grandfather used to shoot skeet with it. I had a gunsmith take a look at it and he said it is in great condition and would have no reservations shooting light loads. For obvious reasons I would love to know a little more about the history of the gun. I have done a fair bit of research on the internet but I have been having a difficult time nailing down anything concrete. Without disassembling the gun I found the following markings…. It’s serial number is 645xx, The right barrel is stamped with Sterlingworth Fluid Compressed Steel, the left barrel is stamped with Made By A.H. Fox Gun CO. PHILA. PA.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Identification/Information Help
Gun was made in 1912. By the serial number its probably not a pin gun, but pictures would be great to see for sure.

Re: Identification/Information Help
62244 is the highest pin-gun Sterlingworth I've recorded. Lowest with a smooth pin 61960. 645xx more likely in the 1914 era. Only a letter from John Callahan

will tell for sure.
The great bulk of the guns from that era would be too long of barrel and tight of choke for optimal skeet shooting.

Thanks for the information guys, it is not a recessed pin gun, the hinge pin for the barrel is flush with the sides. I also appreciate the link to the letter from Calahan, I will definately be sending away for information from him!
