Bill also has/had an Iver Johnson Special Trap, the poor man's SBT gun, that is in very high (restored?) condition. I recall seeing a pic of it many years ago.

I've been branching out into other vintage SBT gun makers beyond Fox and just today the mail brought copy #999 of Frank Conley's book, The American Single Barrel Trap Gun. He has a chapter on the Iver Johnson Special Trap gun and it was a good read. To quote Mr. Conley: "It was a pleasant surprise to find the gun is very well made; it does have a very good, crisp trigger pull and shoots a very respectable pattern. ........ the checkering is quite good - far better than on the two lower grade L. C. Smith trap guns".

Nice that Frank Conley had such complimentary comments on my old Iver Johnson. I wonder who owns it now?

That Ithaca double is definitely a Grade 7, unless they put Grade 7 engraving and inlays on a Grade 5?

I bought Conley's book just a few months ago myself, Frank, and also found the narrative on the IJ very interesting. Actually, it's the main reason I bought the book. I own two of the IJST guns, and always found them quite fun to shoot. They just have a charm about them that brings about, or maybe stems from, quality in low priced goods.

I even used one of them on a few doves a few months ago. There weren't many birds that afternoon, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, anyway.

The Iver in Conley's book is my old gun. I wish I had it back. I paid $39.00 for it and $39.00 each for two other guns in the deal.
