I have found and am looking at a Philly 12ga A grade for sale....The barrel description is listed as "Bright , but appears a little frosty near the chambers"...now I haven't seen the gun or spoken with anyone yet about it , so you know as much as I do about it.What would be your first impression of this "frosty desciption near the chambers"? I am not familar with the term frosty?
Thanks for your opinon

"Frosty near the chambers"?
Re: "Frosty near the chambers"?
A flowery poster? Probably the bluing has worn to bear metal (silver-tone). I'd ask for clarification and good pictures.

I feel certain this was the inside of the barrels next to the chambers....Not on the exterior of the barrels.
I have asked for an explanation , from the seller to explain this...waiting on a return email....Just hoping someone here , might be familar with the "frosty" treminology...concrning the inside of the barrel

Re: "Frosty near the chambers"?
Frosty/frosting are ambiguous terms that have no specific definition relative to shotgun bores .... sellers use either word to mean the bore has oxidized to some extent; you can expect to see anything from surface tarnishing to deeper pitting. Silvers

Thanks...I can deal with the surface tarnishing...I would have much differant feelings about pitting, especially deep!..SamSilvers wrote:Frosty/frosting are ambiguous terms that have no specific definition relative to shotgun bores .... sellers use either word to mean the bore has oxidized to some extent; you can expect to see anything from surface tarnishing to deeper pitting. Re: "Frosty near the chambers"?
I would bet that the seller is referring to the forcing cones which generally are "frosty" looking compared to the chamber/bore. Does the "frosty" start about 2-3" from the breach and seem pretty uniform around the entire barrel?
