Teddy says, "Fox is the best"

1939 Fox Ad, 20 years after TR's death. Guess they thought it was just as good as if FDR said it.

As soon as Teddy's "I had a Fox (No. 12) Shotgun; no finer gun was ever made." quote appeared in the October 1909 Scribner's Magazine, page 403, it began appearing in AHFGCo. advertising. Earliest I've found is in the October 16, 1909, issue of The American Field.

Along about 1915, perhaps for the Panama-Pacific Exposition, AHFGCo. put out a little flyer titled "What Theodore Roosevelt Said About the Fox Gun" with Teddy's picture on the cover, two February 1909 letters from Teddy to Ansley on the inside, and five excerpts from Teddy's articles in Scribner's Magazine on the back.

I have an early original color postcard from Fox to a powder company in St. Louis postmarked 1910(? if I recall correctly) that has the TR quote on the back with an elephant (who looks a great deal like Dumbo). It is obviously promotional because there is no room for other information. I also have an original copy of full page ad from a 1909 Scribner's Magazine Advertiser with the quote showing two straight grip Foxes.
