I was directed here from Shotgun world and am in awe at the wealth of knowledge in these forums. After much reading I believe I am the proud owner of a skeet and Upland fox sterlingworth. Mechanically it is perfect. I'd still say the action is tight! There are remnants of case coloring, and decent bluing left on the barrels.
Strait stocked, 26" barrels, open chokes.
The serial number is 160076. Can anyone tell me what I have?
Thank you all much and I look forward to growing in this community (read "buying more guns")
it did indeed. There have been a few guns in my life that I shouldered and simply knew i needed to own. the first was a 1973 ithaca model 37, and this Sterly was the latest. The wood is worked over pretty hard (was at some point refinished poorly and is now discolored where a slip on pad once lived) but the action and barrels were in great shape. I ordered a replacement butt plate from galazan and may refinish the stock with some tru-oil but this gun will be my main pheasant, grouse, rabbit gun.
Glad you got it. My plans were to just get that lousy finish off of it. Reoil it and put a buttplate on it and shoot the hell out of it. Enjoy!
Dave...
Good find. In the last decade, I've put more shells through my 12-gauge Fox-Sterlingworth Skeet & Upland Game Gun than all my other Fox guns combined. I'm shooting 7/8 ounce 12-gauge reloads for Skeet, and have twice ran 75 straights with it.

Bingo! I have a Remington 1100 stock I'm going to practice stripping and oiling before I tackle the sterlingworth because I've never done it and I'd rather learn on a stock I don't care so much about.
Also have a SKT & Upland gun and as Researcher does I use mine for skeet but it's also capable of holding it's own on sporting clays if I do my part....which I frequently do not.
Here's a photo of the right barrel of my gun. Notice the reamer marks left from opening to a reverse choke.
Just an FYI. In your second photo there looks to be a crack in the left stock cheek. If there is I'd also fix this during the stock refinish.
Since posting here I've begun loading some 3/4oz. Skeet loads and this Sterly is crushing birds 3 days a week!
If I can manage to pry her out of my hands for a bit I think I'm going to send her off to have the stock refinished, otherwise it's been a pleasure shooting her!
