Tight Lipped Group we have here!

Fox Pigeon Gun just sold for over 20K.

Inquiring minds would like to know if any details existed on the gun to help it along or if it was just a case of two interested bidders?

Thanks, Will

Will/Fowlgunner,

As Researcher commented, there was some discussion on the gun in the Members Forum that I will share here plus my own comments.

There doesn’t exist a factory order card for a gun with that serial number so there is nothing there we can use to get some clues on the gun.

The gun looks like it is Fox factory work and there might be some speculation as being an employee’s gun or a lunch box Special. It lacks many of the markings that would be expected on a typical Fox and that might cause some concern.

A little unusual too that it doesn’t have ejectors and the normally equipped top tang SAFE. But that just might be the ticket for a gun that a pigeon shooter would want. No safety and no ejectors. And back then in the 1920’s, I believe pigeon shooting in Pennsylvania was very popular. Teddy Roosevelt’s F grade Fox did not have auto ejectors. I guess he didn’t want the hassle of picking up his empties for reloading.

From my point of view, it is a very fine looking Fox with sort of non typical engraving but very nicely done. It has a lot going for it and obviously, at least two people thought highly of it. I would be proud to have that gun gracing my gun cabinet.

Whether any of the bidders knew more about the gun, it’s likely we may never know. But I’ll bet the new owner is very happy.

Let’s hope we’ll get some comments on the gun on this side of the Forum.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Dave and Jolly,

I felt there was more than a little buzz going on while this auctioned played out.

I hope that if there was a little "Local Flavor" associated with the gun that some of the interested parties might share it here.

In my opinion, the stories are what intrinsically hold the value.
