PA Grouse etc. update

Post by Silvers »

Just back from a nice weekend out at the cabin (northeastern PA). We rode some trails, humped some other ones. Despite the record breaking heat on Saturday, 93 Fahr, we saw 15 grouse (6 of them were pairs), 6 cottontails, 2 shoeshoe rabbits. Also 1 good sized black bear and 15 deer. Plenty of apples, grapes and beechnuts. One of my buddies is a Fox man like me, the other likes Elsies. It still looks like the guns will get a workout this year! Silvers

Silvers, sounds like a great time in the outdoors. Signs of the new season are starting---went to my marsh today and the black birds are flocking, the beavers are very busy cutting poplar, the flag is just starting to turn brown, deer everywhere, the young turkeys are almost full size and the wood ducks are exercising there new feathers. In a week or so the blue wing teal will start to arrive. Tonight the temp will drop to the 50’s. The Bismuth is all loaded!

Craig, despite the hot weather it sounds like you're starting to see the signs too! I forgot to mention the turkey count - I think it was 8. I was at a beaver dam Friday evening and three of them were cutting V's in the water. About a dozen resident ducks here and there. Like one of my buddies said, "a sterling day". Frank

Damn, I can't wait. I have heard good reports all around. I will finally be able to bloody the Fox on some grouse.
