What is the difference between LUP and PSI loads in the loading manuals? What is a safe 1 oz. load pressure to shoot in my old 12 ga. Fox?
Thanks,
Alan

Re: LUP and PSI
This topic has been covered numerous times in the past, and a search of something like "PSI and LUP" using the search function on the index page, will bring up some past dissertations on the subject.
Regarding loads for 12 gauge Foxes, what I do is to use Hodgdon's website, and set up the parameters there for lead shot, 1-ounce loads, IMR-PB powder, and my preferred Remington Game Club or STS hulls. I always use Remington primers for the first few loadings although they are more expensive. After 3 loadings i'll switch to Fiocchi 617's because they are somewhat oversize. Assuming the Foxes are in good, safe condition without barrel issues nor modifications, I will keep the pressures conservative at < 7000 psi for pre-1912 Foxes, and < 9000 psi for newer ones. Of course I've shot some hotter factory loads in Foxes but for volume shooting like on clays courses, I'll stay under the PSI's indicated here. One of my sporting Foxes (1916 gun) just turned 8,500 rounds and its critical barrel/breech face measurements are the same as when I started.
I know others may have other good thoughts and it's not my intent to go back and forth on this. Just sharing what I do. Silvers

Thanks, Frank. I did use the search feature and read some of the post from the past. Good stuff and info. You ever use CCI primers?
