I need to find a gunsmith with fox knowledge in the Detroit MI area

I have a fox sterlingworth that I can't get open.

I use Brad Bachelder in Grand Rapids Michigan. It's a few hours from Detroit but Brad is a very qualified and experianced doublegun smith.

Tell us a bit more about your problem and we might be able to walk you through it. By chance, is the gun currently loaded and the lever won't open to the right??

Just read it and I'll post it here:

When I bought the gun it was a little loose. I person that I shoot skeet with said he could tighten it up. When I got the gun back it was tight, but if I snapped the gun closed it wouldn't open unless I tapped the lever with a small wood block. I thought it would wear in, but one time I tried to open it the lever moved but nothing happened. The gun has snap caps in it and is not cocked. The lever moves all the way to the open position, but nothing happens. I haven't taken things apart yet as people tell me to take it to a gunsmith. Any help would be great.

I think you broke some internals when you tried to force it over. My guess is whomever worked on it made it too tight on face and thus the gun was in bind when it was snapped shut. I had something similar happen with a Parker one time and it was because a weed seed got trapped in there when I closed it. I ended up taking care of that by actually using a small ratchet strap and wrapping it around the closed (and padded) action and then tightening it until the lever would easily come over. Then released the ratchet strap, the action came open and the weed seed was removed. I think you are beyond my remedy at this point.

The toplever yoke that moves the rotary bolt to open the gun is probably bent or broken.Take it to someone who is very familar with working on Foxes. Bobby

I talked with Channing Bachelder of Bachelder Master Gunmakers in Grand Rapids Michigan. He knows what to do as he has seen this before. I will take it to him next week I hope.
