Need help to make sure this is a real Fox shotgun or not.

Post by armydaryl »

I have a single shot 12 gauge take-down shotgun with a 32 inch barrel. The only makers name is on the butt plate and it appears to say A.Fox Co. but worn and the ox is hard to make out. The receiver is marked worlds challenge ejector. The side of the barrel reads choke bored and the top says genuine twist. I was told this is a 1911 model gun it is serial number 56248. Any help would be great and a idea of value as well, thanks.

The A. H. Fox Co. mad a limited number of single barrel trap guns but this does not sound like one of them. They used a plain ribbed buttplate that did not have their name on it. They did not make a gun with "twist" steel barrels either. The serial # the "56,000" range would indicate an A. H. Fox 12g Sterlingworth but in this case it appears to be a mere coincidence.

Sorry AH Fox never produced a single barrel with twist or Damascus barrels additionally Fox marked their maker information on both the barrels and receiver with the exception of the Sterlingworth model which carried the Sterlingworth or Fox Sterlingworth (after Savage aquired Fox) on the receiver.

Here is a link to a photos of a Fox Single Barrel Trap which is representative of what all Fox single barrel guns look like.
