Do not remove the pad. There will not be a checkered butt under there and the pad may well be a factory installation because of a change in the original order specifications. The pad is now part of the originality of the gun. If the measured from the middle of the trigger to the middle of the wood butt is identical to the original stock length specified on the order card, you may consider looking under the pad.

Pretty amazing gun. Your grandfather certainly knew what he wanted and they (Fox) certainly built what he asked. Would be on heck-uva Grouse gun. Where did your grandfather hang his hat back in the 30's?

Conrad,

What at great and rare Fox configuration. Ditto on Marshfellow's request for some pics of the action frame sides. Could you also please also confirm the length of the barrels as 24"? This is the easily done by opening the gun and 'hooking' the lip of a tape measure at the breach end of the barrels.

Regards,

Jerry

Conrad,
In regards to "card of the month". Each month the board of directors selects a gun from the factory records with unusual features. Your Grandfathers gun was the gun picked for September 2010. Like most guns picked you never expect to see them, it is a welcome suprise to see your gun.
I will try to attach the tag.

Thanks Guys!!!! I won't mess with the recoil pad as advised, but will do the measurement and report back.
My grandfather was born in 1903 sooo...that would make him 33 when the gun was made. Well...if that's how you add if he was born on leap year day! LOL The barrels are 24"..I've hooked a tape to them :)
Hey Scott! Thanks for the pictures...What do I have to do to get that tag from you? Is it an original tag?
I'll get the other pictures you have requested...
Do you think I should clean inside the barrels? I haven't done that yet, just wiped down the outside.
Thanks again,
Conrad

Some more pictures...let me know if I'm missing the exact ones requested. I know a little about pistol terminology and virtually nothing about shotgun. :(

Conrad,
I do not have the tag it is just a picture of it. The tag is part of the factory records and it is not available. I will send you my pictures of it just send me your email. I think the pictures that MARSHFELLOW would like to see is the side of the reciever (Both sides)

Scott, thank you for posting the picture for Conrad. I earlier requested the site administator to bring the card to the top but apparently he is not monitoring the site at this time. Conrad, that is one great gun, one of the rarest of Savage era Fox shotguns.

From the trigger to the end of the pad is 14". Fits pretty good on me.
