A. H. Fox CE Grade 16 Ga

Post by conrod »

This was my grandfather's gun and I was fortunate enough to inherit it. :)
I am attaching a copy of J.T. Callahan's letter to me regarding the full description of the shotgun.
I'm just curious to know what it is worth for insurance purposes.
Thank you in advance for your replies.
Conrad

WOW Conrad! That is a rare one IMO. A 16 bore CE w/ single trigger, BTFE & 24 inch barrels from the factory. I would say insure it for no less than 15K and perhaps more like 20K. You have a family treasure.

Best Regards, George

Great Gun !!

Can you share some pictures of the sides of the receiver?....I want to see the engraving on the flat sided (SP style) frame...that sure is special order with that configuration. I'd love to see shots of how the frame is marked, bottom of the barrels too.

Thanks,

conrod,

It looks like your tang screws, as pictured on the photo with the ser. no. on the tang, are 1/2 turn off on each. They could have been swapped into the wrong respective holes, also. The edges of the screws should be flush with the holes and are not. Very nice gun.

Wow! What great Fox! I wonder if there is a checkered butt under that pad?

Thanks Guys! I had no idea what a treasure I was left with! Not sure I understand the September Card response...please enlighten. Should I peel the red rubber pad back to see regarding the checkered butt?

Chokes...is that typical for double barrels to have different chokes?

NO The recoil pad is undoubtedly attached with screws. If you wish to remove the pad I strongly recommend finding a competent gunsmith/stock maker with the proper tools and skills to do it.

Would the administrator bring the September card of the month up to this forum? I am having difficulty bringing it to the top. It doesn't seem to respond to a "reply". It is now in the "Member's Archives". Thanks, Craig.
