Craig,

You need a big stone fireplace and hearth to warm these girls, like that great picture of those four Setters in George Bird Evans book.

Those dogs ( and owners) need ribose. It is a unique sugar that stops lactic acid build up after strenuous excercise. Endurance atheletes use it. I couldn't believe the fast recovery time it made on my dog, expecially when she got older. At the age of thirteen, she hunted two consecutive days, five hours each. I have to admit, that did get to her though. At fourteen, she could hunt 3-4 hrs a day. Had to put her down this year after her fifteenth; intestinal virus.
Every season, after the first couple of hunts, my groin muscles would get sore. No more after ribose.
I said it is a unique sugar in that it can acutally make blood sugar go down. The heart draws extra energy from it also by converting carbohydrates. As a heart patient, I use it everyday. It is something your body also naturally has, so it's not a foreign substance.
