Flight birds moving
We had a good freeze followed by a strong south wind and the flight birds moved. Had a good shoot with Dee Dee today. No pictures of my Super Fox but you get the picture. Four greenheads loaded up with corn and a great pintail and a gadwall.

Re: Flight birds moving
Great photo and bag, Craig. My black Lab, Mandy, and I are heading up to the northern Sacramento valley tonight to see if we can get a few greenheads.

Re: Flight birds moving
Jim: I have always wondered what it is like hunting ducks in the northern Sacramento valley. I have relatives in N CA and it is so different from central NY.
I am truly blessed as are all waterfowl hunters. This week the big groups of 50-60 mallards appear over our marsh, they look likes dots in the sky. They have traveled over Lake Ontario and are looking for a place to set down for the day. They lock up and fall from the sky, make a few swings around the marsh and in they come. It is one of the highs of the outdoor life I get most excited about, 50 northern mallards cupped and heading for your hole. I love chasing ruffed grouse in the southern tier of NY, pheasants on the high plains of North Dakota, but flight ducks over my marsh in late November is the ultimate.

Re: Flight birds moving
Craig, we are still mostly hunting local Mallards. A lot of the northern Mallards get shortstopped in the Columbia basin in eastern Washington, but we get some later in the season. Now we have northern Pintail, Widgeon, Gadwall, Greenwing Teal and Shovelers, as far as puddle ducks go.
