Off Topic -- Adventures in the Northland

Post by Silvers »

My friends here know I'm pretty passionate about whitetail deer hunting. Here’s a pic of yours truly and a decent northern whitetail buck I took last week in western Canada. This guy scores 165-4/8 inches and is an 11-pointer eastern count. Good mass - compare the web thickness with the width of my hand. He weighed in at 238 pounds. For those familiar with the B&C scoring system, both G-2’s are pretty long at ~12 inches each. The buck also has a long sticker at the base of his right beam.

I saw 14 different bucks in two days of hunting. The rut was in full swing. I passed on this buck on the first day, but got a better look late on the second day that convinced me to go ahead. That cut my deer hunting short = one deer limit. I also did some chicken hunting later in the week, bagged 6 grouse in a few hours with a 410 single barrel. Unfortunately…. no pics of the chickens; my camera went goofy from bringing it inside while cold, and was drying out that day.

Well anyway, I’m back. I have PM's and emails asking about the trip so I’ll post more details and pics on the Members Forum when I get a chance. Nope I didn't get the elusive buck they named "Houdini" but a friend did. 8) There's a thread on Houdini dated October 14 in the MF. Silvers

The Boone & Crockett Club calls them abnormal points; more common term amongst hunters up north is "stickers".
