Super Fox sells for $16,100. at Julia's

Post by fox-admin »

The surprise of the auction for me was the HE Super Fox lot 1124 that sold for $16,100. If I am not mistaken G&H had that gun for sale last year for around $8500. Ya never know what will happen in an auction if two motivated buyers get in a bidding war. The Sterlingworth 20ga S&UGG sold for $2415. and the 16ga Sterly sold for $2300. The Parker hammer guns all seemed to sell below the low estimate as did many of the Winchester 21's. Nice to see the Foxes do well in a tough economy.

Anything special with the HE to cause the high price? High condition? Owned by someone famous? (other than the Esquire of Union Point, Ga)

Nothing special, a bunch of us inspected the gun at various shows and it was nice with a Savage era beavertail.

I looked at the G&H HE at several shows. It was priced at 8500 or so and it did have a beavertail, but I don't remember a single trigger. I wonder, is this the same Super? Silvers

I recall that gun having a SST when at G&H, I am pretty sure its the same gun...

That price seems very high to me... Galazan has one for sale a lot less... it seemed the market HAD really softened on them; I have seen several sell for close to a quarter of that in the pat year or two...this might make them hard to touch at that price again...
Cheers!

I saw that HE the first week it was out on the rack at G&H. It was a Savage gun with a factory BTFE and SST. The condition was average. I've owned 8 HEs. I found nothing special about it and passed. I am happy that someone is happy for have paid that kind of money for it. I was shown a very nice HE at the the Vintagers, with factory lettered C grade wood. A nice gun for 1/2 the aforementioned amount. It was a 30" so I passed on that one too. I sent another 32" HE back to the vendor last week as the barrels and chokes had been altered. Such is life but for that it would have made a perfect canvas for my next HE project- The "Family Honor" gun...
