Gun information
Morning gentlemen, I have a double barrel 12 guage in surprisingly good condition which is stamped "Fox gun company, Baltimore Maryland, serial number is 932. Am NOT concerned about value as I don't know that a value could be placed on it part with it, I am needing a location or person I may contact for more information on this gun as I am having difficulty finding anything on a gun this old. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Gun information
Click on the home page. Then click on "pre Fox guns". You will learn all you ever wanted to know. You may learn a little more by reading Michael McIntosh's Fox book, but, for all practical purposes, the same researcher created both banks of information. Can you post pictures of your gun?

Re: Gun information
We would love to see some pictures of your gun. 932 is a new high serial number for a Fox Gun Co., Balto., MD., U.S.A. Previous high number I've recorded is 875 and that was just a receiver.

Re: Gun information
The two of these Fox Gun Co., Balto., MD., U.S.A. guns I've had an opportunity to measure had very tight bores, all in the .708" to .712" range, and they had the very long 3 1/4 inch chambers. In that time they were being made, 1898 and 1899, Ansley Fox was a Pigeon shooter and many Pigeon shooters used the long shells for the better gas seal their taller wad columes offered. American ammunition manufacturers at that time offered paper 12-gauge shells in 2 5/8, 2 3/4, 2 7/8, 3 and 3 1/4 inch lengths. Here are the mortal remains of #714, given to me by an Idaho Parker Bros. collector --

Re: Gun information
Find a copy of The Double Gun Journal, Winter 1998, that is volume 9, issue 4; see the article on
Baltimore Fox by Tom Kidd. Several pictures and additional information. Different research than
McIntosh.

Re: Gun information
I had an article "The Fox Gun Company of Baltimore City and Baltimore Arms Company" in The Gun Report, Volume 42, Number 9, February 1997. I believe they sell back issues -- phone (309) 582-5311. My two-part article on Baltimore Arms Co. followed Tom's Fox Gun Co. article in The Double Gun Journal, Volume Ten, Issues 1 and 3.
