Value question: Extractors VS. Ejectors

Post by ROMAC »

I recently came across a reblued Sterlingworth with a shiny buffed receiver that I normally would not give a second look, however it was an ejector model. So It could make great fodder for a future custom renno. The price was a stretch as an extractor but might be "fair" since it was an ejector. The wood was original and in nice shape but for the after market recoil pad.

What premium is considered "in the market" and be applicable for a low end but ejector model Sterly?

Maybe 25 to 50 percent premium, with the higher number for higher condition. If a gun is useless as a collector because of a shined up receiver, it should not be used up mechanically if the intent is to make up a custom gun. A used up ejector gun would sell for only a small premium over a used up extractor gun. There are plenty of cheap rusty guns out there that have only been shot a few hundred times. Those are the guns we want for projects and customs. If two Sterlys were very high condition, I would gladly pay 50 percent premium for ejectors.
