A.H. at the 1901 GAH at Live Birds

Post by Drew Hause »

I know this isn't news to anyone, but while investigating another shooter I ran into this report of the 1901 GAH at Live Birds. A.H. was in the shoot off using a Winchester 1897

He was shooting for Winchester in 1902, but that's the last mention of him in Sporting Life

By November 1902, Ansley and four others were incorporating Philadelphia Arms Co.

Which would explain these "warnings" :)

Drew,

Twenty to twenty-five years ago I was spending hundreds of hours at The Library of Congress thumbing thru bound volumes of old sporting magazines to find these little gems. Now the computers do it for us from the comfort of home!! There actually is some "progress"!!!

A while back I found a blurb about Ansley and Mrs. Fox taking off from Philadelphia in a new automobile to drive to the 1904 Pennsylvania State Shoot. As I recall some grief befell their automobile and they had to be hauled there by train or some such. However, I haven't been able to find it since redoing my office this spring. So, if you stumble across it, shoot me a link. Likewise if you stumble across any pictures of Ansley later then the 1901 GAH which I have, shoot me a link.

Thanks

Dave

Dave, the la84foundation has a very limited amount of outdoor research material. True, it is available for search, but leafing through old sporting publications is still the order of the day for most research on shooters. If la84 foundation receives a large donation of sporting publications, maybe we will have more material available to us.
