value?
value?
Could someone help with the value of the gun I just received? I would like to know if it is worth getting insurance on the gun. It is a Fox number 27345, engraved with a pair of quail, woodcock and a dog (setter?) on the underside, barrel weight 4, C grade, chromox fluid Comp. steel barrel. I know pictures would help but I would say it is in good to very good condition. The hard leather case is missing the top. Thanks.

Re: value?
Need pictures and even more info (barrel length, case colors, ejector or extractor, bore diameter and chokes, Pistol or Straight grip etc etc) to even get close on a real value. However, its indeed worth insuring if the condition is good without a doubt. PS. Google that one and you will no doubt find a few dealers who have them available for sale. However, asking price and getting price can be worlds apart for sure.
Re: value?
I'm not looking to sell; this was my father’s gun, as stated in original post just asking for insurance needs. I will try and get pictures, all I can add is 12 ga. 28 in barrel. Don’t know enough about guns to get the other info so maybe pictures will help. Were is the best place to get the gun appraised?

Provide what your location is and we can probably provide someone who can help you with an appraisal nearby.

Re: value?
take it out to see Dewey Vicknair at Vicknair Restorations... he's in Lancaster PA, should only be about 1.5-2 hours each way depending on traffic and what not...he can give you a great inspection, make sure the gun is serviceable, what is original, what is not, and probably give you an estimate. Steven Cobb in Princeton is another that is not TOO far away, he buys and sells a lot of vintage doubles and could give you a fair estimate.
Could be anywhere from around $1000 for something that has been highly modified to more than $10,000 for something that is factory original with many rare factory offerings...
Cheers

Re: value?
You could try Millers on Route 13 just south of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. They could give you a ballpark estimate if you do not want to travel too far.

Re: value?
Looking at a fox sterlingworth double. 12 guage with I/M 28" barrels. Serial #67658. Stamped A.H. Fox Philadelphia on the barrels. Not sure of the model but am sure it is not a high grade. Pretty plain gun. Gun is tight though with normal wear. Wondering what a ballpark range on this gun would be. Any help anyone could offer would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: value?
If it says Sterlingworth on the sides, that would be the model. The Sterlingworth is the field grade model. As always, condition determines value. Ball park on an average condition Sterlingworth is about 600 to 800.

mrsaber,
Bring it to Pintail Point 9/23-26. The venue will have knowledgable Fox people everywhere.
