Beavertail forearm ? and one for data base

Post by vaturkey »

For those who might know, how much weight (oz) would be added by a Beavertail forearm on a Uttica/Savage era 20 gauge? Pending me laying my eyes on it and giving it a thumbs up, I've got s/n 270769 inbound. 26" 20 gauge with Factory Beavertail, Ejectors, twin ivory beads. Current weight 6 lbs 8 oz.

3 or 4 ounces. you could get someone on this board to weigh their 20 sterlingworth ejector forend with splinter and compare with yours. yours will probably have the u shaped steel recoil lug inletted around each side of iron and that will ad more weight.

Fat sucker. Can't imagine why anyone would want one for hunting.

Wow; 6-8 seems heavy for a 26" 20ga, no? That BT must add a bunch. My Utica 16ga ejector with 28" is 6-8, my Utica 20ga extractor with 28" is a whisker under 6. Both with splinters. FWIW the 16 ejector forend is 7.2oz, the 20 extractor forend is 6.5oz.

I pick up the gun tomorrow. Current owner said it weighs that much, but he could be using a bathroom scale for all I know. My 20 gauge SW with 26" tubes weighs 5 lb 15 oz with the standard forearm. This is an ejector gun so it may weight a bit more to start with, but those beavertails are just huge.

You're not going to make an ejector beavertail 20 into a project gun are you?

It's not original. Barrels have been reworked and stock has been cut and refinished. PS. Sent you some pics.
