Fox A Grade 12 gauge SN#21073

Post by sfcmosteller »

I have the gun you have listed on your site under the The "A" GRADE Fox section, "The earliest Gough-style engraved 12 ga gun recorded is serial number 21073" But it never mentioned this in my Callahan letter. Can you give me any information on this gun?

We have kept records of the serial numbers on the earliest and latest guns from the early engraving period and the late engraving period. At one time your gun was thought to be the earliest late style A grade gun. We have since found an earlier one 21062.

I've got Gough style A-Grades recorded well down in the 20xxx serial number range -- 20741, 20843, 20896. The highest serial number we've recorded with the early style engraving is AE-Grade 21061, and the very next card for 21062 says "new engraving."

Hello David: I'm glad to see that you've still got that old Fox! Are you back at Bragg? I'm planning to attend the Southern SxS next month. If you are in town let's get together for lunch.

Best Regards, George

I never really paid close attention to the reference of "lowest serial # on record" before reading this thread, but I have Serial# 10812 & 17901 both A-grades. What do I win? Does anyone want pics to verify?

I have #20241 A grade that is the old style engraving shipped Nov. 1912. From the other threads this may have been one of the last with old style. Lee.

# 2002X, with earlier engraving, was built for stock then shipped to the buyer on May 16, 1914.
