Post by Researcher »

Thanks to all our members and friends who stopped by our table at the Antique and Sporting Arms Show at the Riviera Hotel and Casino. A special thanks to our members who provided guns for our display.

I would like an enlargement of the "Bo Whoop and the young Nash" picture. Which one of Nash's books was that picture taken from? It was nice to see Becker #120 again. It's been awhile since I've seen my dream gun.

I just wanted to add my thanks. It was a good show with many nice guns. The best were on the Fox table.
I especially want to thank Paul and Dave for sharing their considerable knowledge. The warm hospitably by them and the chance to meet many other members was a rare treat for me.

While I didn't find the straight gripped 16 bore, 28" XE of my dreams I did get to swing BO and slobber on 120. Such are the things dreams are made of.

Paul and Dave, I still think we could have used Bo at the ponds at the Bellagio. I swear I saw a few mallards drop in there.

For those fortunate to be able to attend this year's show would you please give those of us unable to attend a little more detailed report...such as visitor attendance, vendor turnout, guns of interest, trend in prices, were guns exchanging hands?, etc. etc.

TIA,

Just like anywhere, items that were priced right were moving around and overpriced stuff was sitting. I heard people saying they were selling and buying right and left and I heard others complaining of lack of sales. I just happened to be standing in the right place to witness three new-in-the-box Winchesters sell, Model 12s. We certainly didn't sell enough memberships to cover the cost of a table, so it is only through Mr. Beinfeld's generosity in comping us a table that AHFCA is able have a presence there. Any members crossing Mr. B's path should thank him. Steve Barnett had a really high condtion little AE-Grade 20-gauge and the 20-gauge HE-Grade Super-Fox coming up for the Greg Martin auction is a screamer!! Most of the other Ansley H. Fox doubles I saw had issues. I noted some dealers returning that hadn't been there the last couple of years, but rather then their large booth in the "Sporting Arms" room, Puglisi only had four tables in the "Antique Arms" room this year.

I would also like to thank all of those that came by the table and to members that brought guns for display. It was nice to put faces to names. I would also like to thank James Julia and Wes Dillon for graciously bringing Bo Whoop over to the AHFCA table Saturday for photos and allowing it to "Grace" the table for a period of time. WOW!!!
Here are a couple additional pics.

Paul, Great pics!! Thanks for sharing...

Wow that line engraving on the barrel sure looks like someone might have been drinking when they did it... sort of surprised that bo whoop would be that poorly done...

IMO BoWhoop isn't famous so much for what it is, as much as for where it's been, what it's done, and with whom.

Stan: You nailed it! BoWhoop's "been there & done that" with The Legend of Waterfowling. Who cares about the engraving!

I get that... there several other HE/XE guns, but no other are famous... so let me rephrase... I am surprised that Becker would put him name on that...look at Becker 120 and then look at BoWhoop, a gun that he knew was being built for someone "famous" and "important." He could have fully expected the gun would grace both book and magazines... yet he built it like some backwood gunsmithing yokal with his first set of gravers??? It just does not make sense to me... but then again... who the hell am I... never owned a Becker gun or even seen one in real life...
Cheers!
