Report from Beaver Dam, Tunica, Mississippi
We spent last week at Beaver Dam. The fowls proved somewhat "eloosive' as Ho'ace would have said. We hunted the first 3 days of the renewed season and were blanked on the first, took limits of gadwalls and mallards the second and scratched out 4 gads and 1 mallard the last day. There was an obviously lack of ducks at the lake which is normally a target rich environment. I suspicians" that the severe weather last week in the upper Mississppi Rive basin will fill the lakes with ducks this week but such is water fowling. I had my HE "Becker Special" Shootinest Gent'man Fox out the first day but not one of us fired a shot. Our hosts were armed with Sterlingworths including an early "pin gun". A delightful time as always other than a Tuesday afternoon encounter with a waitress from the Blue & White Cafe that took out the side of my Mercedes GL SUV while she was in the midst of a few 360s in the rain on Fox Island Road.

Don: Empty skies seem to be the norm in many waterfowl friendly areas this year. Your HE "Becker Special" is a truly awesome gun, I am sure it accounted for a few fowls. One question, will you be carrying Bo Whoop next year??
Re: Report from Beaver Dam, Tunica, Mississippi
Craig- thanks for the kind words on De Shootinest Gent'man gun. As for "Bo Whoop?", I await the additonal provenance necessary for a reputable house to call this THE gun. What amuses me most is the plethora of opinions on the authenticity of the gun from people who have never handle a Becker made gun let alone owned and studied them. As a Becker made A.H. Fox Gun Co. piece, this gun would appear to be an anomaly in many respects when compared to other known Fox Beckers. Besides, my broker would have me committed when I came to get the funds to do the wire transfer after the auction...the gun belongs in the DU museum if real next to the real BWII rather than in a private collection like TR's 1909 F grade safari Fox (which belongs in the Smithsonian). It would make a nice tax deduction for someone having a good year.-Don

Don,
Your XE/HE is just beautiful! When you say that you are waiting for the provenance from reputable house, do you mean that you are waiting to hear from JJ themselves? what "house" could be more reputable?
Likewise, could you please let those of us not lucky enough to ever own, let alone handle a Becker Fox, know how this gun is an anomaly?
It is greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
