Bo Whoop found and for sale at Julia's

Wonderful story Stan the gun is more than likely Bo Whoop. I'm just wonder why Burt Becker at the top of his game didn't engrave TO NASH BUCKINGHAM BY BURT BECKER on that high grade gun and for his friend Nash. I know Bo Whoop II is engraved when Becker was a very old man I think he wood have engraved the first gun. Has anyone ever seen this stamping on any other Burt Becker guns or are they engraved? Who knows Nash may have been wanting the gun in a hurry for duck season. Donnie

BoWhoop II and 33050 were D quality guns and had engraved barrel legends. X quality and below were normally stamped. BoWhoop was the first gun Burt made for Nash, so the mutual admiration society hadn't been born yet.

Bo whoop has a Fox serial number which appears to have been stamped by Fox. The gun is in the Fox records and it therefore seems conceivable that someone at fox may have stamped the barrels. I am not sure how much engraving work Burt actually did himself over the years and how much he farmed out to others. I am certain that the guns he worked on sure could shoot. The only two people who could authenticate this Fox as the "real deal" are both deceased, Nash Buckingham in March 1971, not sure about Mr. Becker. If it is truly the legendary Bo-Whoop, it was stolen, albiet by the same fate and fortune that lead Llewelin Moss to find the drug money in "No Country For Old men"- and legally remains the property of Mr. Buckingham's estate- How can Mr. James Julia consider selling such a "hot item" unless of course, he has made arrangements for Mr. Buckingham's heirs to receive the proceeds. I have the book "Mr. Buck" The Autobiography of NB- Countrysport Press- 1990 beaver Dam Press ISBN- 0-924357-15-0 and the back foto on the dust jacket clearly shows Nash seated at his desk with typewriter, holding proudly the second Becker magnum and his grandson on his right knee-if that lad is alive today, would not Mr. Buckingham want him to have that "Heirloom HE"? I should think so.

Actually Nash sold most everything he had to keep himself and Irma going at the end, BoWhoop II, the Model 21 Award Gun, paintings, etc. From my read of the history, he blew thru at least two family fortunes in his lifetime. I'm not a lawyer, but I recall this point being brought up in the past, and I believe it was said that the statute of limitations has long ago played out on this issue. Perhaps Lawyer Kaas can enlighten us.

The broken buttstock is puzzling to me. The photo of it on my lap showing the poor quality cheek checkering makes the entire piece look like low quality wood. But, it isn't. You can get a little idea of the wood quality from the photo from the rear showing the cast-off. It is very nice wood. The wrist area has been the subject of some damage of some type other than the break. It looked like water damage to me, and hides the grain effectively. But, even if it were XE grade wood the cheek checkering is just not right for XE grade. The checkering on the butt was well done, and on the wrist, too. Though not a fancy pattern.

Who knows? NB may have had a local gunsmith, like Highsmith, restock it after breaking the original. Just because he didn't write about it in a letter doesn't mean something like that couldn't have happened.

If the Honorable Gun crossed state lines during the past five years, the statutes are still in play. JMHO

Not sure if this is Bo Whoop, but it is a straight grip with pad. Note the mud or wear on the buttstock. I'd say he used his guns to hunt and not store in the safe!
