A grade 2nd generation question

Post by HardCash »

I purchased an A grade Fox that I believe was made in 1926. It was advertised as a 2nd generation. What does that mean and how many generation A grade Fox shotguns where there ?

The early style A-Grade Ansley H. Fox double is probably the most common graded Fox shotgun. The change to the Billy Gough 2nd generation engraving phased in during the high 20xxx, low 21xxx serial number range, circa 1913-14. Remember from 1905 thru 1909 the A-Grade was the lowest price Fox shotgun. The Sterlingworth was introduced in 1910.

Actually both these guns are 20-gauges, but they are the pictures I already had loaded in Photobucket. The upper was shipped April 1913 and the lower July 1927.
