I think at least 2 Foxes. Early A grade or Fox SW as they have snap on forearms. I'm going by the half round grip. One thing is for sure. Was one heck of day in the woods or road hunting. Imagine in early 1900's grouse had no idea what they heck that thing with four tires was as it came tooling down the road. Als, based on the number of guns in the picture, that was one crowded car. PS. Gun on the far left appears to be a rifle. Seems like even in 1900 there was always something who was more interested in meat hunting then being a true sportsman.
For those who lose count, there are 24 grouse in the photo.
Tom thanks for posting. Times were much different in the early 1900's and I for one have no problem seeing a rifle in the pic even if the guys were using it to pot shoot sitting grouse. Consider, at that time many people raised their own chickens and Sunday dinner was often a nice soup chicken or roaster that met its unfortunate demise with a kitchen knife, not the proverbial axe on a chopping block. Anyone who has seen this done will know what I mean. Adding to the family larder by potting a sitting or perched grouse with a 22 rifle would be humane in comparison, and no lead shot to chew on at the table. Cost of a 22 cartridge versus a shotshell may have been a consideration as well. Then again maybe the guys had the rifle because squirrel or deer season was opened concurrently?
Well anyway it sure looks like the gents had a good day afield. Nice looking dogs too. Silvers
Frank, I'm not sure how many foxes are in the photo and thats only because I'm new to the game of collecting great Fox guns as you know, but it does looks like a old fashioned hummer in the photo with Kaisers great cousins. Keep well my friend.
