Thank you.
I actually have some of those old alcan wads, but federal 209 primers are gone the way of the Remington 57s.

Re: pressure
In the fifty's and early 60s the standard was 19 grains red dot, nitro over powder wad, fiber wadsto the correct hieght for the crimp, 1 1/8 oz shot, 50lbs wad pressure, and any primer, no plastic wad collum. was wondering if I could still make these loads? I know it's not practical but what the hec...

Re: pressure
Thank you all for the info. I do all my target shooting with reloads so it is noproblem to load low pressure loads, and my old Winchester model 12s and Beretta over and under will shoot them just fine also. My Sterlingworth is a Philly gun made in 1930 so it may be a moot point. I have a lot of card...

Re: pressure
I shoot mostly 10z, 1100fps loads, was wondering if there is any advantage to the super low pressure loads that can be made up imr pb, the velocity is the same.
PS, what is the case lenth of a fired 12 gauge roll crimp shell? Is it by any chance less than 2 3/4?

pressure
Which is more likely to cause damage to a gun stock? Chamber pressure or shot weight? It seems to me that pressure affects the metal, but higher shot weights cause more recoil and more stress on the stock.

Re: Opening up the chokes question
I've never opened one up, scared to make the first cut, might wreck something. I did try spreaders in a high Grade Flues Ithaca that shot like a rifle, the only ones that worked were dispser x and the plastic fowling was terrible. Left the barrells alone and sold for a profit

Re: Opening up the chokes question
What are your opions on salvaging barrells ruined by someone opening the chokes with what appeared to be a chipped king pin reamer and no pilot, opened almost to cylnder and no longer round? Briley thin wall screw in chokes? I salvaged a Winchester 12 3inch that some had cut 2 inches off the end of ...

Re: barrel weight
Tested the trigger pull with a lyman digital scale.
This Fox is not totaly original, the stock checkering is sharp and the wood is proud of the metal but it has been varnished, and a trace of the varnish got on the metal, [it's not lacquer because it dosen't come off with lacquer thinner]

barrel weight
My 1930 Sterlingworth 12 gauge does not have the barrel weight marking as shown in the pictures on this sight. There is a very small 2 on each barrel just ahead of the flats. the 30 inch barrels measure .801 and .803 at the muzzel and the same 15 inches ahead of the breech. The bores are .730 right ...

case color
How do you preserve the case color on a Sterlingworth that is to be used for sporting clays and hunting? The present condition has been appraised at 90%.
