Not Fox related, but Proof houses in the EU

Folks, I'm wondering if anyone knows where I might be able to find any information about proof houses that might exist in Sweden or other northern European countries? I'm looking for somewhere that could proof test older shotguns in Sweden for use with non-toxic ammo given the new EU law requiring n...

Re: Original stocks on Sterlingworth guns

In looking through the images it seems as though someone tried to match the checkering pattern on my forearm with original wood. The top picture of forearms has a similar pattern, but is on a splinter forearm. The forearm has the snap in attachment as well.

Thanks for all the info.

Re: Original stocks on Sterlingworth guns

Thanks for the info. The stock has a cap and a full pistol grip, so I assume the wood is original. The forearm is a beavertail, but the gun is a Philly "Pin gun" most likely made sometime in late 1911 or early 1912, based on McIntosh's book. So I'm assuming that the wood there is newer/rep...

Original stocks on Sterlingworth guns

I'm curious to learn more about the various stock and forearm configurations found orginally on Sterlingworth guns. I have what appears to be a 1911 "Pin gun" that has a standard pistol grip with a grip cap, but I'm seeing a lot that appear to have Prince of Wales grips as well. Were the P...

Re: Replacement stock options...moved from main forum

Thanks for the info. I was pretty worried I would have to replace the whole thing. I didn't pay much for the gun, but don't want to spend a huge amount of money to get into working shape either.

Re: Replacement stock options...moved from main forum

Thanks, I'll get in touch with them and see what they say about gunsmiths in MN who might be able to do the work.

Re: Replacement stock options...moved from main forum

I'm in northern MN. There are a few folks not too far away who might be able to handle the repair. I just received the gun last week and haven't had much time to pursue repair yet. My plan is to have everything done at the same time (cleaning the stock/wood & metal, as well as the stock repair a...

Re: New to me Sterlingworth 12ga

Hey Jolly, I appreciate the input and the thoughts on when the gun was made. I was guessing based on a list of SN and years they were used. I know the gun isn't likely to increase much in value and I'm mostly interested in making it a useful duck hunting gun. I also expect that duck hunting will be ...

Re: Replacement stock options...moved from main forum

Thanks for the thoughts. I know it's a pretty rough gun and duck hunting won't likely be easy on it either. It's going to need a good cleaning to start since the wood and the metal are both pretty dirty/tarnished. Here are some pictures of the chip/crack and broken butt plate. Fox butt plate.jpeg Fo...

Replacement stock options...moved from main forum

I recently purchased an AH Fox Sterlingworth 12 ga and the stock & buttplate were damaged in transit. The seller was great about it and made good on it to a certain extent. However, I will need either a replacement stock, or to have the chip and other small crack repaired. I plan to use the gun ...

New to me Sterlingworth 12ga

Hello from a newbie. Orignally an Upstate NYer, and former CTer, who now resides in far Northern MN. I've had my grandfather's Fox B Savage 16 ga (Utica) for many years, but recently purchased an AH Fox Sterlingworth 12 ga. Based on the serial number (58898) it seems like it was made very late in 19...
