Re: Number 2 set of barrels!

The barrels and forearm had reversed numbers. The barrels were marked 2 and the forarm was marked 1. The auctioneer informed the gallery that complete gun with the number 1 set of barrels (32"), and the 2 forarm were sold two auctions ago. The auction house contacted the purchaser and offered t...

"How to Buy a Gun" Brochure Question

Maybe a topic for "Fox Paper", but will ask here. I came across a "How to Buy a Gun" Fox brochure recently. The condition is good but the back page is tearing away at the fold. It is a really interesting brochure. This is definately not a reprint. I am not a collector of paper, b...

Re: C Grade Fox survey

In the "heart-shaped" example(s),the radii of leading edge of the panel checkering reflects and compliments the leading edge of the grip checkering, resulting in a really elegant look. It is artistic touches like this, that set these guns apart. Thank you Frank for bringing this to light.

Re: Fox Skeet and Upland 12 ga.

Researcher, Here is one to add to your database. Fox Sterlingworth Skeet and Upland 160,322. I purchased from a gentleman in MA in '99, and sold to another in MI in 2005. This gun had 26" barrels bored skeet and 1/4 choke. It too had the short tang. This actual gun was pictured in McIntosh's bo...

Re: Pumpkin Mtn Gun Shop - A+ Service

Thanks Silvers. I plan on being at the NE again this year. And thank you for the technical points on the extractor fit. My technical capabilities are limited and it did not take me long to realize that even this seemingly simple task was beyond my expertise. I have a heightened appreciation for the ...

Pumpkin Mtn Gun Shop - A+ Service

I want to share my recent experience with Jason at Pumpkin Mtn Gun Shop. I needed an extractor for a 16 ga Sterlingworth. Jason at Pumpkin Mountain had several in stock. He prepared the part by broadening and deepening the firing pin notches, relieving the bottom edge and chamfering the guide pins. ...

Sterlingworth 16 ga. Extractor Removal Procedure

I have a Utica 16 ga. that does not open smoothly. The extractor is dragging, it does not move smoothly. I suspect there may be a burr in the extractor housing. Can anyone provide instructions for removal of the extractor rod? It appears that removal of the cocking lever is required. I don't want to...

Re: Drawbolt?

I am curious as to what percentage of 12 ga. Sterlingworths were produced with 26" barrels? I realize that only an estimate can be speculated. Also, do the 26" barrels command any type of premium (all things being equal)? The vast majority of Sterlingworths I have encountered are 28 and 30...

Re: Allentown PA Gun Show and sad news

The Hartmans have always been a class act. I noticed the one brother was not there. I did not realized he had passed. Very sad. Frank, Witty1. I did not see you at the Forks show. I have been looking for 26" 12 ga. for upland hunting. Picked one up off of a dealer table. 1924 vintage w. 3 wt ba...

Utica Fox SW "ringed" Butt Plate Needed - 12 ga.

I am looking for a Utica Fox SW 12 ga. butt plate. The minimum dimensions are 5 1/16th" long, 1/3/4" wide. Something a little over-sized would be preferred as this will need to be fitted to the existing stock. The "ringed" screw holes are 3" center to center (I could be wron...

Re: Fox Sterlingworth Hinge Gun with A Grade Engraving.

Thank you all for the informative replies. A letter has not been ordered yet. All of the offered ideas seem possible. The gun came out of house in the Phila area, and was in the family a very long time, so a lunchbox gun is a possibility. While the A-style engraving is slightly different than "...

Fox Sterlingworth Hinge Gun with A Grade Engraving.

A fellow Fox enthusiast recently uncovered this interesting Fox SW, serial number 59303. This gun appears to have started life as SW exposed hinge model. Some of the interesting features include: 2nd generation A grade engraving (with some extra flourishes and scroll work, a European walnut stock wi...
