Patterning-J. Stegmeier-"News that you can use"

Kudos to Jeff Stegmeier in the latest Summer issue of the AHFCA Newsletter. He wrote an excellent article on shotgun patterns with various maker's doubles used for duck hunting. The non-toxic shot patterns in various vintage doubles was an eye opener. Owning a 30-in Super, 1916 BE And XE gave me som...

Re: Beaver Dam Club & 1909 MS Supreme Court Ruling

A most interesting article. The singular earlier convictions of the local hunters probably reflect some resentment against any out-of-state hunters banded together in a Mississippi leased club. However, Nash Buckingham lost his HE Super Fox in 1948. Before that, he hunted with a 34 inch Parker. It i...

Re: 1917 Fox XE Grade

As much as I admire the intricate engraving on our family 3rd generation Parker AAHE, I have to agree with Tom Kidd on Fox deep Gough pre-1920s engraving patterns. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And then there are DeLuxe L.C. Smiths... Horses and fine shotguns. Or a One of One Thousand Ulrich...

Re: 1917 Fox XE Grade

This little XE Fox will probably be only used for turkey hunting. It reminds me of some of the guns owned by Tom Kidd and featured in his Double Gun Journal Fox articles. Recommended reading for Fox folks. The nicest -or one of the nicest of the XE grades-is the Exposition XE pictured under AHFCA Gr...

Re: Long 12-gauge shells

The LC Smith Collector's forums-at the end subject list-goes into great detail
about shell length, live pigeon shoots with listed scores and make of shotguns used,
and tournament entries.

There was interest in the Cashmore guns and special shells.

Re: LC Smith "Long Range" on the course

The advantages of the LC Smith Long Range /Waterfowl 3 inch guns are the numbers of the guns out there, and they are a bit handier than the Super Fox for turkey hunting. I have both, but the HE wins hands down in a duck blind or goose pit. The real question is why are there so few 12 GA Parkers cham...

Re: Classic Pump Guns

My father used Winchester M-12s most of his life, including a M-12 32 inch 2 3/4 in chambered gun, and a M-12 heavy Duck gun. He also used a 12 GA Greener double and a Specialty Grade LC Smith 20 GA double. The Parker AAHE grade stayed at home. I use Model 12 Heavy Duck guns for geese and ducks with...

Yes-the camera also has automatic ejectors. But, no need to go back to the original photo!
Tapping the image will allow a closer view. And no- This XE is not for sale

1917 Fox XE Grade

This 1917 12 GA Fox XE has been mine for a few years and has just returned after some internal adjustments with tightening of action and tolerances. I have a real straight stock weakness for the thin ribbon border checking pattern-seen during the Gough- Godshalk period of the 1915-1919 era. Barrels ...

Re: LC Smith "Long Range" on the course

Excellent Long Range Smith. Mine is battle scarred, but has accounted for
two large vocal turkeys in the recent seasons.
I do compare the HE to the Long Range: it depends on the bird
and the shot load -and the range. I think my Super Fox has
a greater range but that is what it was designed for.

Late season luck with the Super Fox

Late season weekend in April connected with a 3 yr old who fooled me last year. Same sly bird, same place, same gobble tone but he dropped his guard at 45 yards. Ten inch beard, almost 19 pound bird. (Central Alabama) Used HeviShot 4s with no evidence of anything in the barrel. HS has changed their ...

Re: Model 12's are way cool

The Heavy Duck Model 12 works exceedingly well on turkeys
that can be called into range. A Fox HE 3 inch is also a proven goose and turkey double.
I found an almost mint M-12 / 20 gauge and then let it get away from me.

Re: Cold morning in SD

That other dark spaniel looks like a carbon copy of my duck hunting companion- A Boykin
spaniel named Mad Max. He was happiest retrieving mallards and teal near Roswell, N.M.
We hunted with a 1916 BE grade Fox.

Re: A good morning in the L 'Anguille bottoms

First rate, Stan. You are passing the torch to the next generation. Nash Buckingham also preferred #4 shot in both his big HE Super Foxes. Mine just this week worked really well on Canada geese -with slightly bigger shot size. Its nice to have two barrels to work from, as each barrel can carry a sli...
