Re: Couple Black Ducks

Eric: The big ducks are just starting to come but mostly blacks. 15 years ago this time of year it would be 90% mallards and 10% blacks. Now it's 90% blacks and 10% mallards. The black numbers seem unchanged from years passed, mallards are WAY down from my observations. It's a hard game the last fe...

Re: Couple Black Ducks

Duck hunting has been a difficult game the last few years. For decades our mallard bag was about 50% of our total. The mallards have vanished from our part of the Atlantic Flyway. I am yet to shoot a mallard this year. A decade ago I would shoot 25+ in our marsh by now. In big ducks we now see 85% ...

Re: Dreaming of Hunting with my new Fox

Congrats to you and your son! A few in my group mentioned seeing grouse but not me. I saw 3 coyotes, and a bunch of racoons. The song dogs were the biggest I've ever seen. We were told the area goes crazy opening week of "Partridge" season. I was told that they see a lot of road hunters w...

Re: Dreaming of Hunting with my new Fox

Very nice bear!!!! My son and I both shot nice bears. It was a good trip. He used a .308 and I used a 30/06. His did cover a little ground. Shoulder shot but no blood. Maybe covered 100 yards. Our guide said the same thing about slug guns He said he loves seeing guys use slug guns. MKes big holes th...

Re: Dreaming of Hunting with my new Fox

I put a few drops of Woodford Reserve over an ice cube or two and told the wife I was going down to the man cave to snap a few caps with Reynard last night. I closed my eyes and before I knew it, I was dreaming about woodcock, dogs and very special to me 16-gauge Fox. I had my phone with me, so I m...

The book referenced is not Lock Stock and Barrel. It is a book Cyril wrote specifically about Pigeon shooting and its variations. The title is "Live Pigeon Trap Shooting". Buy it while you can. It is the classic on the Pigeon Shooting sport. I have the Live Pigeon and Trap Shooting book. ...

LC Smith Long Range

Just picked up this LC Smith Long Range with 32” barrels yesterday. Shows a lot of use on the barrels but the case coloring is still pretty good. The right barrel has been opened up some but it should make a nice duck gun for me this year!!! It has good dimensions and shoots nicely. https://i.postim...

I recently picked one up. I will post some pictures. It’s got some use marks and wear. But it’s a fine shooter.

Re: one eye or both

I've done that exercise before and, as hard (nearly impossible) as it seems to me that it would be to do, I'd rather try to switch shoulders and learn to shoot from my "off side" than to shoot with one eye closed. I've seen people put some Vaseline, or scotch tape, on the lens of one eye'...
