I am new to this site. I am the owner of the Iconic HE/XE no. 30069 and the exquisite Senator Hawes 20 bore Becker 30" Wildfowl shotgun. Both written up in DGJ by Bill Headrick over the years and referenced in MM's book on Fox Shotguns. I am considering bringing the HE/XE to Beaver Dam on a hunt Boyd and Jefferson Island Club with Hawes/Becker 20 bore to hunt Hawes Point. Suggestions? Advice? Input?
Thanks,
HOSSDOG

Get some suitable non-toxic loads from RST and have at it. Get them out doing what they were meant to. Wonderful!

Your a lucky man indeed. 30069 is my holy grail gun. I have wondered for years who owns that gun. I shoot SF's almost exclusively on ducks. You can't beat Kent Tungsten Matrix #5's 1 1/4oz. Welcome to the Fox Collectors and please post pictures of the gun and your hunt. I have written and researched Super Foxes for a very long time and am lucky enough to own a couple of HE/CE's and some very nice HE's. There were only 12 XE grade Supers made and we know the two Crossman guns were not true XE engraving. Three were consigned to Nash Buckingham and one Monte Carlo HE/XE is owned by the Fox collector. Congratulations on owning two wonderful guns. Craig Larter

Did the history letter that " Jallen " had ever get to this guns owner?

Hello Boss, When is your hunt with the Boyds? Several members and I hunted with the Boyds with our super foxes as a tribute to Nash Buckingham. If I remember right, Another member, Dennis Hayes, has also hunted Beaver Dam with his HE. Is HE/XE the gun with ducks engraved on it? Send pictures of your guns and your hunting trips with them.
Jim

Welcome, HOSSDOG. As Jim mentioned, several of us have hunted BeaverDam with our Fox HE guns. I was one of the ones that WS there when there were five HEs in the blind at one time. Mike, and his son Lamar, are great folks and doublegun lovers themselves. You would enjoy a hunt with them, most likely. It is a very easy hunt. You will drive to Mike's house, then load into his boat and ride a few minutes out to his blind.
I second the request for you to post pics of your two guns, if possible. If not, if you could email pics to one of us we might be able to post them for you.
Don't be a stranger. SRH

Great to have you aboard, HOSSDOG. Beaver Dam and Jefferson Island Club shooting present two very different venue requirements for both guns and ammo. Having shot both, I can say that your two aforementioned Foxes will neatly fill the bill, albeit in different ways. Both should be exciting outings and I am jealous! Kevin

Thanks, All. Yes, I have enjoyed these guns for many years. Beaver Dam and Jefferson Island: Bucket list items. Wife is ill now. Doves just concluded here and these two old babes continue to hammer them....hard. Ducks I use Bismuth fo's. Will post some picts in the near future. Have enjoyed reading the late Sen. Harry Hawes book, "My friend, the Black Bass".

Am not always checking this site. Yes, I have the JAllen letter on provenance for 30069. Neat stuff. History. My e-mail is
JIacopi@iacopi.com. I check that e-mail as part of my practice. Thanks, jti

Great to hear the two guns are still in service as intended and not just sitting in a gun safe. It is just nice to know they are in good hands.

Amen to what fox-admin/Craig said.
And thanks very much for letting us Fox guys know where they are and that they are being enjoyed in the field and marsh.

To add to the confusion, I own Harry Hawes' 20 gauge Model 21 that is pictured in his hands in the flyleaf in one of his excellent books. The Model 21 letters to him and was ordered and sold at the Parker Whelen gun store on 14th Street North West in Washington, DC. It is a wonderful two barrel set, 30" and 26". I also own what I think is the last HE ordered by Nash Buckingham's store before he ordered Bo Whoop. It is supposedly the gun Nash took on his Canadian trip shortly before "building" Bo Whoop. It returned to the USA a couple of years ago. I hope this information is of interest to members. I guess the question is "Should all of these guns be in the same collection?"

Interesting, all of this. Yesterday I patterned 30069 with 1 3/8 oz. no. 4 Bismuth, 2 3/4" cases. Outstanding as usual. Honkers opens here next Saturday. Won't be an issue to drop one of those for our dinner. Fall is here in No. California. Sitting close to home these days but enjoying the reading and thinking ahead to future Fox purchases. Guns cleaned, packs loaded and geese galore! Happy Fall, John

I had an idea of selling or trading Senator Hawes' 20 gauge Model 21 bird gun, but creating interest in its provenance is difficult. It letters as a Tournament Grade, 2 barrel set. The Cody letter mentions Hawes and Parker Whelen. Parker-Whelen is just blocks from the Capitol, a walk that I have taken many times as a teenager haunting the pawn shops and gun shops along the way. The little 21 has a factory fifties restock and shows no use since. I bought it from the daughter of a Northern Virginia Pontiac dealer who probably took the gun in trade for a Pony. I would love to see a picture of the Senator and a Pontiac. I have been to the Jefferson Islands Club but not to Beaver Dam. I have found Senator Hawes in the Jefferson Islands Club sign in book, which probably contains entries from Harry Truman also. Some day, I will get an invite from my shooting-collecting buddy, Kevin McCormack, to do a Super Fox shoot at Beaver Dam. I will shoot the Canadian HE on that shoot. That will be its first trip back to Memphis in almost 100 years.
