Re: Trade the Fox for a fly rod
Atta boy Craig.
Sandy Creek used to be my brother Tom and my favorite place for bullheads way back before trout and salmon were stocked in Lake Ontario. That was back in the early 1950's when my brother was in high school and I was in grade school.
Our mother used to drop us off at Sandy Creek near where it emptied into Lake Ontario (Straight Lake) on Friday nights in late April and early May. We had a lantern, some hot dogs, matches and fishing tackle. We fished all night and she picked us up on Saturday morning and we usually had a nice catch of bullheads.
Used to spear suckers in the creek also. Those were the days.
Nice fish by the way.
And it turns out, my brother Tom Jolliff and Bill Pearce (both NYSDEC fishery biologists) started the Lake Ontario trout and salmon program back in the mid 1960's. That steelhead might have some of my brothers DNA on it. A sealed bottle of Molson Golden with his ashes in it is floating around Lake Ontario somewhere.

Re: Trade the Fox for a fly rod
Bill great times indeed!!! It is one of the great fisheries in the eastern US. Most of the fish in the Sandy are now native born no stocking only the Salmon River is stocked. Hats off to your brother. Catching lake run steelheads on a fly is as much fun as shooting ducks with a Super Fox.

I'm not going to hold you to that: "Catching lake run steelheads on a fly is as much fun as shooting ducks with a Super Fox." And I won't tell the VMC guys either.

Good to see you are having a great fall Craig. That is one nice fish.

Nice going, Craig! My second "vice", besides hunting with a SxS, is flyfishing for Steelhead out here on Pacific coast rivers. Jim
Goodbye Mandy, once in a life time hunting dog. I miss you every day.

Nice going Craig
My son and I were discussing the steelhead runs and water levels just this past Sunday
Looks like an answer, lol

Very nice picture Craig! I'm envious of you having water like that so close. Thanks for posting.

My doctor told me you should not be holding that much weight with new hips. Just kidding, I wished I could have caught one like that in Oregon this pass Spring.
