Good evening folks...

Well, she is mine...the owner accepted my counter-offer and she came home with me for $450!!! 8)

The barrels are sound...real clean and solid inside with no light peeking through. The rust looks like it is not as bad as I first thought and I think it can be removed.

Researcher - the gun does not have a cap on the pistol grip...I was mistaken in this.

I will be posting picture and more detailed photos as soon as my heartbeat returns to normal. :D

THANKS to all for their help, advice and support...this is a great group to be part of and I am very excited on my hunt for the NEXT one.

Researcher...do you have an order card for my new toy?

Semper Fi,
Pat

Congrats on the new Fox! Do post some pictures when you get a chance. If the gun is a Sterlingworth, then Researcher and the rest of the Fox BOD don't have access to those order cards, only for Graded Fox guns. If you want more information on it, you can order a research letter from John Callahan, the Arms Historian who has the Sterlingworth order cards. Here is a link from the Fox Homepage that has his information.

Thanks Mike...

It's been a long road in pursuit of my SW...so many folks gave me advice and help in id'ing and determing whether she was a good gun or not.

I will write Mr. Callahan and ask for his help.

Pat

Congrats on the gun; sounds like you did good. I hope you enjoy it! I wouldn't hope for much on your gun from JC; it seems that with Sterlingworths (especially the Savage-made guns)the later the gun the less information is available. I got a letter on the first one I bought; haven't bothered on the others because, frankly, $40 or whatever it is these days is a lot to pay for a copy of the catalog specs. JMHO.

I think it's still $30 for a letter and you just never can tell.

I agree, Bill. The biggest reason I get Callahan letters is in the off chance that the initial consignee was someone out of the ordinary, or even famous. If so, the value of your gun just went up.

It doesn't hurt your resale value any, to have the letter on an original gun, if and when you go to resell it, either.
