Fox Collectors

Hello all, I am a newbie to Fox shotguns. Up until a few days ago I had never even heard of them. When My grandfather passed away my father was given his guns. We were both curious about what seemed to be a very old double barrell that said Fox on it. My father took it to a gunsmith who had never seen one in person, but knew of them. It has all matching serial numbers, 20 ga., with 32" barrells. Serial number is in the 2014xx A series so from what I have found it is an A grade from 1919 from the Philadelpia Gun Company era. The gun is immaculate without scratches or knicks anywhere. Can someone please let me know where I can find more information on this newly discovered family heirloom? From the age it must have been my great grandfathers and is finally being passed down to younger generations. Thank you all, I will keep looking through this forum, I have already learned so much.

What you have is a great Fox gun, a 32" A grade 20ga makes many collectors break into a sweat! It is a very rare and unusual configuration. Your grandfather didn't happen to live in California and hunt ducks? 20ga guns with 32" barrels had a following in that area. Some Foxes were built for that purpose. We would all love to see pictures of the gun and can tell you much more about it's condition and originality. Please post some pictures.

No, we have been in the midwest for as far back as I have traced the family tree. At this momont my father has the gun, but I will be going to see him for the holidays and have my camera ready to go. Will post some pictures soon. I cant wait to learn more about it. Thanks for the advise and keep an eye out for pictures.

From Jan/Feb 1920 by the Ansley H. Fox Gun Company. If an AE then an original 3" chambered gun, if not, then one of 2 std 32" A's made in 14xx range. Merry Christmas

You guys sure do know how to give a guy a merry christmas I can say that much. Plan is to take another look at it Saturday and we will measure the chambers and get some pics of it to post. Going to send my check and get a certification letter, but am also going to look for an arms expert in the Kansas City area to take a look at it to get an opinion in case we need to insure this baby. If anyone has any recommendations who to talk to I would appreciate it. Again, thanks to you guys for your help. I can't believe we completely overlooked this treasure, thank goodness my old man has a lot of time on his hands for curiosity. I guess it really does do more than kill the cat in this case.

I live in the Kansas City area and I can honestly say I haven't found a "Fox expert" in this area. If you are looking for a valuation get a Callahan letter, post the information from the letter and good clear photos of the gun showing the condition condition and rely on the experts that post here. If you want a sight unseen estimate talk to your insurance agent and get a $6,000.00 rider on you home owners policy until you can get a more accurate evaluation.

Just don't expect to replace it for only $6k.
