Fox Collectors

I've been busy with a big project and this is the first I've had time to reply here. I am familiar with the regular Kautzky design and agree with Frank (yelloh) this assembly would work well as a show & tell gizmo and perhaps that's all it is. But it seems too finely finished for that and its engraving isn't typical Fox. Actually I think it has an Ithaca flair to it. But the engraving really isn't relevant here. This assembly as pictured would only work in a modified Fox frame and then only with shell extractors. There doesn't seem to be any provision for "firing" of the Fox-Russell patent ejectors. If this assembly was from a production prototype it would be nice to see the gun frame that went with it, to check for additional modifications to adapt this assembly to work with ejectors. That frame certainly wouldn't need the regular blind holes for the mainsprings and their followers. From factory assembly and production points of view this improved design would have advantages in more easily installing and fine-tuning a Kautzky single trigger without having to install/remove the trigger plate multiple times while function testing to adjust contact with the hammer sears, trigger pulls, etc.

To comment on Dave's post about catalog changes I think the sear block and itertia block are one in the same.

The coolest paperweight ever !

I didn't mean to imply that I thought "sear" and "inertia" were different, but that "Because of new patent" might mean that Savage made some change to the Fox-Kautzky trigger. The pictures of the trigger mechanism in the Philadelphia catalogues and the Utica catalogues do look a bit different. I'm not at all mechanical and don't go inside these things like Frank!!
