I'm with Bill on this one. My first turkey was killed with 1 1/4 of #6's some 50 years ago and many after that using what was called a live pigeon load. 1 1/4 of 7 1/2's at 1220fps.

I definitely want to experiment with some different shot sizes in the future. I have just always loved lead 4s or 5s in my other turkey guns, but those are of the more modern variety. I have quite a few Remington SPs that are my go to turkey guns and I shoot hevi-13 7s now days in those with great results. There used to be a little gun shop by my house where the gentleman would sell you shells individually for patterning purposes. I wish I could find another place like that!

This isn’t an endorsement or suggestion to do anything illegal but I've heard that some avid gunners will still hunt waterfowl with lead shot, depending on the location and whether the blind allows for good perspective on anyone approaching. Sure, if caught they'll get pinched. It's just my opinion but that seems to be an insignificant infraction in comparison to the major and sometimes tragic defiance of legal laws and authority that's been going on in our country and that's accepted and even praised by some. Just some fiction writing here: ya got a hunter sitting all day on the water and he finally gets a chance or two at some tall ones cruising by in the clouds. Who can resist? Better and more humane to be trying for them with lead 4’s than bismuth or steel. frank
